Middle & High Staff

7th Grade – High School English: Ms. Orchid Garcia

Ms. Garcia joined Renaissance during the 2019-2020 academic year. She will be teaching 7th and 8th grade ELA in addition to High School English I, II and AP English. Ms. Garcia holds a master’s degree in English and Liberal Arts in Addition to a bachelor’s degree in Psychology. Ms. Garcia worked as an adjunct professor at the Lone Star College in Houston Teaching Developmental English Courses 101 and 103 for 7 years.  She was also the program coordinator of The Undergraduate Scholar’s program at the University of Houston for 2 years.  She taught college success courses focusing on helping students choose a major through various self-assessments, discussions, activities, and the opportunity to explore the unlimited career options available to them through UH’s degree programs. In addition  to preparing and delivering lectures to undergraduate students on topics such as Personal Responsibility, Motivation, Major/Career Exploration, Self-management, interdependence, Ms. Garcia also worked as a Writing Center Tutor at the Lone Star College in Houston where she developed and designed curriculum for instruction and remediation and assisted students through the various stages of writing

Middle and High School Math Teacher: Ms. Callie Angell

Ms. Angel Joined Renaissance during the Year 2018-2019 academic year as our Middle and High School Math Teacher. She holds a Masters in Curriculum and Instruction – Mathematics, in addition to Bachelor of Science in Mathematics Education and a Secretary of Generating Educational Excellence in Math and Science (GEEMS) Program. Ms. Angel has more than 5 years of math teaching experience in public schools in addition to one year of as adjunct math faculty at St. Philip College. Ms. Angel excels in the area of Technology Integration in her classroom and is proficient in the use of Google Classroom and all its applications.

Middle and High School Science Teacher: Christa Chagra

Ms. Chagra joined Renaissance Academy during the 2017-2018 academic year. She brings with her a wide range of expertise and teaching credentials. She has a master’s degree in STEM Education (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) form UT, Austin. Such a program is research-based and focuses on hands-on, inquiry-based science in addition to the connection between all 4 STEM disciplines. She is certified in Composite Science including Biology, Chemistry, and Physics. In addition to her master’s degree, she holds a bachelor’s degree in biology and an associate degree in General Studies in Science. Ms. Chagra taught advanced science classes in public schools in the past including Advanced Biotechnology/Environmental Systems. She has a research background which she has acquired working as a Research Lab Assistant at UT, Austin. She is very passionate about conserving the environment and volunteers as the Outreach Coordinator of Texas Master Naturalist, Lost Pines Chapter.

Middle and High School Social Studies: Mr. Robbie Williams

Mr. Williams joined Renaissance Academy during the 2016-2017 academic year. He led the school to Nationals for two consecutive years in the History Fair. Mr. Williams is a vital part of the middle and High School Team. He will be teaching 6th – 8thgrade social studies in addition to high School AP Human Geography and AP World History/ US History. He holds a significant number of teaching certifications including 7th -12th-grade social studies, AP World History, Gifted and Talented Training, IB Extended Essay Supervision.

He has several years of teaching experience teaching Pre AP and AP world History, Sociology, Psychology and social studies in the public school. He is a very dedicated teacher and connects well with students and staff. It was his passion for teaching that enabled him to drive 1.5 hours daily one way for his previous teaching assignment. He believes in building an interactive and collaborative learning community and is very fond of technology integration. He utilizes a research-based social studies curriculum using up to date information.
