Faculty

Principal: Dalia Mostafa

Ms. Mostafa brings with her 20 years of experience in the field of Education as a teacher and an administrator.  She has extensive background in school administration after having served as a principal in Islamic Schools in the US over the past 8 years.  She holds two Graduate degrees in the field of Education; (CAGS) Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies in addition to a Master's Degree in Foreign Language Instruction. Both degrees are from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Ms. Mostafa is trained as an evaluator and served as a member of School Accreditation Visiting Teams multiple times with both the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) as well as AdvancED. She has extensive training in the area of behavior management, school improvement, and effective communication with parents as well as effective conflict resolution strategies.

Operations Manager & Renweb Admin: Sameena Siddiqui

Ms. Siddiqi earned her B.S. in Economics with Minors in Math and Finance from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and she earned her Masters of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She has 3 years of experience working in various administrative positions.

Pre-K4 Teacher/Pre-School Program Lead - Marla Wiggen

Ms. Wiggen has more than 16 years of experience in various pre-school settings, has a Bachelors Degree is ESL, is a certified Pre-School Director and has worked as the Director of a large and successful Pre-School. In addition to her extensive experience teaching young children, she has experience training other pre-school teachers. Recently Ms. Wiggen received her National Director's Credentials.



Pre-School 3 Lead Teacher:  Lamya Chouika

New to the Austin area, previously worked as a Preschool teacher at an Islamic School in Ohio where she also worked as an Administrative Assistant.  She attended Catonsville Community College in Baltimore Maryland.  She enjoys working with children and loves helping others.  Ms. Lamya is also a Certified Nursing Assistant with extensive work experience in Pediatric Care with Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus Ohio.


Pre-School Co-Lead Teacher: Almas Kudia

Ms. Almas Kudia was born in Pakistan and attended High School in Pakistan and the US. She has been closely involved in Islamic Schools since 1996 in Michigan and Alabama. Ms. Kudia has been an active parent at Renaissance since 2009 and has been substituting in various grade levels since 2012; for the present academic year she's taken the role of preschool Qur'an and Islamic Studies Teacher as well as full time substitute.




 Kindergarten: Sarah Wakefield

Ms. Wakefield is a Texas Certified EC-4 Teacher with ESL Supplemental Certification. She has three years of of elementary teaching experience. She earned her BS Degree from The University of Texas at Austin and is working towards obtaining her Gifted and Talented Certification.  


 1st Grade : Maria Shield

Ms. Shield brings with her over 29 years of teaching experience.  She is a certified teacher in the Sate of TX in Elementary Education, Secondary Education History, Physical Science, and Science Composite.

Ms. Shield has been a presenter of teacher training on topics including, class organization, science demonstrations, physical science institutes, elementary science, computer training and engineering robotics. She also provided training on the integration of science, math and technology for Newton's Apple and KLRUTV. She developed and implemented Bowie H.S. Physics Circus where her students demonstrated to elementary children science concepts learned in class. She coached a Robotics Engineering Team at Ojeda Middle School for 5 years going to both regional and state Competitions.


 2nd Grade: Samar Slaman

Ms. Slaman is a recent graduate from the University of Texas, Austin. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Applied Learning and Development in Elementary Education. Ms. Salman is in the process of obtaining her teaching certification as a Generalist Early Childhood - 6th grade. She has already fulfilled most of the requirements including a 6 months of student -teaching term. Ms.  Salman is trained in the implantation of technology in education and able to analyze data for instructional purposes. She is also fluent in Arabic.  


Ms. Salman is also the recipient of several recognized honors and awards including:  Scholarship from the University of Texas at Austin (2012-2014), Phi Eta Sigma (2013), Alpha Lambda Delta (2013), Kappa Delta Pi.  International Honor Society in Education (2012), President's List of Academic Achievement (2008), Certificate in Information Literacy (2007), Honors Award in History (2007), Honors Award in General Biology I (2007)


 3rd Grade: Jessica Burke 

Ms. Burke has joined Renaissance Academy as a 3rd grade homeroom teacher. She was recognized twice as a Distinguished Student by Tarleton State University. She holds several Teaching Certifications covering elementary and middle school levels. She is also certified in Special Education for K-12. Ms. Burke has an extensive background in Math instruction and intervention. She has several years of teaching experience in public schools. She is experienced in TEKS based curriculum, assessment, and instruction.  She brings along with her a lot of passion and enthusiasm that is sure to enrich our school.  Welcome aboard Ms. Burke!!!


 4th - 5th Grade Language Arts/Social Studies: Shannon Rhodes

Ms. Rhodes is a Texas Certified Grades 4-12 English Language Arts and Reading plus Science Teacher. She has three years of teaching experience. She taught Grades 6-8 Language Arts and Creative Writing her first year.  The next two years she taught Grades 6-12 Language Arts and English.  Ms. Rhodes also has an additional year of classroom experience with various subject areas for 5th-8th grades.  She earned her BA Degree from the University of Florida and completed graduate courses from the School of Education at the University of Central Florida.


 4th & 5th Grade Math/Science: Sana Yusuf

Ms.Yusuf has joined Renaissance to teach 4th and 5th grade Math and Science. She has recently relocated to Texas from the cold Canadian weather as newlywed, congratulations!!!  She holds a Master’s degree in Math Education in addition to a Counseling Skills Certificate and a B.A.in Psychology. Ms. Yusuf holds two Teaching Certifications from Canada as well as New York Sate in Elementary Education. She has experience teaching 1st, 2nd and 4th grades.  She also taught High School Chemistry and Biology. Ms.Yusuf has experience organizing and leading after school activities in another Islamic School such as Drama Club.  She is an active ISNA volunteer and has lead and coordinated a lot of their activities. Welcome aboard Ms. Yusuf!!!  



Arabic/Islamic Studies/Quran


Arabic Teacher/Department Head: Jilali Kattass

Mr. Kattass graduated with Teaching Certification from the Teacher Training Center in Taza, Morocco. He taught Arabic for nine years in various elementary and middle schools in Morocco, where he focused on the development of Arabic curriculum standards. He has 7 years of experience teaching Arabic in the United States and has been the head of the Arabic department for 4 years.


Kind-2nd Grade Arabic, Qur'an, and Islamic Studies: Latifa Chiguer

Ms. Chiguer received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Muhammad V in Rabat and taught Arabic and Qur’anic Studies for two years in Morocco. She also has one year of experience in a Pre-Kindergarten Center in Texas and more than 7 years of experience in Islamic Schools as a full-time Qur’an, Arabic, and Islamic Studies teacher.


4th and 5th Grade Arabic Teacher: Laila Khater

Ms. Laila received her Bachelors Degree from Al Al-Bayt University in English Language and Literature with a minor in Education from Amman, Jordan. She taught English for elementary classes for one year in Amman,  Jordan. Ms. Laila joined Renaissance in 2012, and worked with Ms. Latifa Chiguer.


5th - 8th Grade Qur'an and Islamic Studies: Ariege Muallem

Sr Ariege Muallem earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology (with a Minor in Chemistry) from the University of West Georgia and her Masters in Endocrinology Reproductive Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  However, her passion for Tajweed led her to earn her Tajweed Certificate from Al Azhar Institute in Houston, TX.  She has taught Math and Science to Middle and High Schoolers, but has now decided to teach Quran and Islamic Studies as those subjects are closer to her heart.  She has  had students from ages 3 yrs to 18 yrs, teaching them either Quran/Arabic/Islamic Studies or Math and Science.  Because of her science degrees, she always tries to incorporate science into the tafseer of the Quranic verses she teaches, in the hopes of instilling in her students an awe, love and respect for the Book of Allah.


Middle School and High School Language Arts: Patricia Marquez

Ms. Patricia Marquez received her Masters degree in English from CUNY Brooklyn College and her Bachelors degree in writing and literature from Sarah Lawrence College. She studied literature and philosophy abroad at King's College London. With five years of classroom teaching experience, including SAT, ACT, AP, and Common Core test preparation, she is also a published author of short stories and poems. Currently editing her first novel, Ms. Marquez enjoys challenging her students rigorously in reading comprehension, composition skills and strategies, persuasive argumentation, and creative writing.

Middle School Math and High School Algebra II: Molly Eapen

Ms. Molly Eapen has joined our Middle and High school team this year. She will be teaching Middle School Math in addition to High School Algebra II. Ms. Eapen is certified Middle School Math teacher for grades 4-8. In addition , she holds a teaching certificate in 6-12 Chemistry. Ms. Eapen is a seasoned teacher with more than 20 years of teaching experience both in the Public and Private schools. She was nominated for the Presidential Award for Math and Science in 2007.  She was also nominated as Teacher of the Year in 2006.  Ms. Molly’s student had more than 90% success rate in standardized tests. She is trained in Technology Integration as well as in the Education of gifted and talented students.  Welcome aboard Ms. Eapen!!! 


Middle School Science, High School Physics and Pre-Calculus: Landon Chambers

Mr. Landon Chambers, a young, inquisitive and accomplished scientist or, as I like to call him, Mr. Einstein has joined us this year. He will be teaching Middle School Science, High School Physics and High school Pre-calculus. Despite his young age, Mr. Chambers has gone much further in his scientific achievements than most young men his age. He holds a Master’s of Science in physics from A&M University department of Physics and Astronomy. He is currently pursing his Ph.D. in Physics Education. He taught several undergraduate courses in Physics. Mr. Chambers is also a well published researcher with several physics related research publications. He is a recipient of 12 scholarships and awards in the areas of Math and Science between 2007 and 2010.  He is a member of several nationally recognized Math and Science organizations including: Sigma Pi Sigma (Physics Honors Society), Sigma Xi (Mathematics Honors Society), American Physics Society, Society of Physics Students, and Mathematics Association of America. He provided supplemental instruction in Algebra, Geometry, and Pre-Calculus courses specifically to students with learning disabilities. He helped raise over $50, 0000 for a free summer camp for kids whose parents have/had cancer. Welcome aboard Mr. Chamber!!! 




Arabic/Islamic Studies/Quran

High School Islamic Studies and Quran: Islam Mossaad

Sh. Mossaad earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He has more than six years experience working as the Imam of different North American Islamic Centers. He has also worked as a teacher in different Islamic Schools for 6 years and was the principal of an Islamic School in Arkansas for one year. Sh. Mossad is a Hafith and lead the Taraweeh for the past couple of years at NAMCC.

Renaissance Education Foundation

Renaissance Education Foundation (REF) is an Austin based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to support youth activities that cater to the need of our community. REF's mission is to promote academic excellence, leadership skills, and distinguished moral principles in youth by providing infrastructural, operational and monetary support. Renaissance Academy is a REF initiative.
