Acting Principal: Jilali Kattass

Mr. Kattass graduated with Teaching Certification from the Teacher Training Center in Taza, Morocco. He taught Arabic for nine years in various elementary and middle schools in Morocco, where he focused on the development of Arabic curriculum standards. He has 4 years of experience teaching Arabic in the United States. .

Operations Manager & Renweb Admin: Sameena Siddiqui

Ms. Siddiqi earned her B.S. in Economics with Minors in Math and Finance from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and she earned her Masters of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She has 3 years of experience working in various administrative positions.

Pre-K4 Teacher/Pre-School Program Lead - Marla Wiggen

Ms. Wiggen has more than 16 years of experience in various pre-school settings, has a Bachelors Degree is ESL, is a certified Pre-School Director and has worked as the Director of a large and successful Pre-School. In addition to her extensive experience teaching young children, she has experience training other pre-school teachers. Recently Ms. Wiggen received her National Director's Credentials.


Preschool 2 Lead Teacher:  Michelle Alexander

Ms. Michelle is an Austin native. She has been working with children ranging from ages 6 weeks to 12 years. She has practiced several different learning styles from Reggio Emilia, to Tools of the Mind, as well as teaching in regards to the Texas Rising Star Standards. She has a BFA in Musical Theatre with a Minor in Education. When not in the classroom teaching and being silly with the little ones, you can find Ms. Michelle performing on several different stages around the Austin Area. Currently performing with the Zachary Scott Theatre Company. 


Pre-School 3 Lead Teacher:  Lamya Chouika

New to the Austin area, previously worked as a Preschool teacher at an Islamic School in Ohio where she also worked as an Administrative Assistant.  She attended Catonsville Community College in Baltimore Maryland.  She enjoys working with children and loves helping others.  Ms. Lamya is also a Certified Nursing Assistant with extensive work experience in Pediatric Care with Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus Ohio.


Pre-School 3 Assistant Teacher:  Humaira Liaquat

Ms. Humaira Liaquat is holds a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry & Biology, and a Masters in Chemistry, from the University of Karachi. She has taught Chemistry and Biology for eleven years utilizing Student-focused and hands-on techniques. She has experience educating young children utilizing proven and developmentally appropriate practices with the Round Rock Independent School District.


Pre-School 4 Co Lead Teacher: Almas Kudia

Ms. Almas Kudia was born in Pakistan and attended High School in Pakistan and the US. She has been closely involved in Islamic Schools since 1996 in Michigan and Alabama. Ms. Kudia has been an active parent at Renaissance since 2009 and has been substituting in various grade levels since 2012; for the present academic year she's taken the role of preschool Qur'an and Islamic Studies Teacher as well as full time substitute.




Kindergarten: Sarah Wakefield

Ms. Wakefield is a Texas Certified EC-4 Teacher with ESL Supplemental Certification. She has three years of of elementary teaching experience. She earned her BS Degree from The University of Texas at Austin and is working towards obtaining her Gifted and Talented Certification.  


1st Grade : Shannon Fick

Ms. Fick is a Texas Certified EC-4 Teacher with ESL Supplemental Certification. She has one year of experience teaching Korean ESL students and two years of elementary teaching experience. She earned her BS Degree from The University of Texas at Austin in Applied Learning and Development.


2nd Grade: Sara Peatross

Ms. Peatross is a Texas Certified Early Childhood-Grade 6 Generalist and grades 4-8 Language Arts and Reading plus Social Studies teacher. She has three years of experience in elementary schools.  Ms. Peatross has held several long term assignments including kindergarten and third grade. She earned her BA degree from Missouri Valley College and completed graduate courses in education at Texas State University.


3rd Grade: Tammy Amin

Tammy Amin joins Renaissance Academy with over six years of teaching experience. She received her Bachelors of Science degree from Southwest Texas University in Criminal Justice and Family and Consumer Science.  She obtained her Master’s degree in Elementary Education from the Acacia University, The American Graduate School of Education in Arizona graduating with honors and was chosen to be on the Dean's List. She is a Texas certified Generalist EC-6 teacher. She is a Learning Coach for the Masters program teaching Classroom Management. She received a Gold Star International Teaching Certificate and a Certificate in English Reading from Houghton Mifflin. Prior to her career in education, Tammy worked with Child Protective Services.


4th - 5th Grade Language Arts/Social Studies: Shannon Rhodes

Ms. Rhodes is a Texas Certified Grades 4-12 English Language Arts and Reading plus Science Teacher. She has three years of teaching experience. She taught Grades 6-8 Language Arts and Creative Writing her first year.  The next two years she taught Grades 6-12 Language Arts and English.  Ms. Rhodes also has an additional year of classroom experience with various subject areas for 5th-8th grades.  She earned her BA Degree from the University of Florida and completed graduate courses from the School of Education at the University of Central Florida.


4th & 5th Grade Math/Science: Sumayya Humayun

Ms. Humayun is a Texas Certified EC-4 Teacher with ESL Supplemental Certification. She has three years of experience working as a 4th and 5th Grade Math/Science teacher and an additional year of experience in other classroom settings. She earned her BA Degree from Lamar University and is enrolled in an MA program in educational technology.



Arabic/Islamic Studies/Quran


Arabic Teacher/Department Head: Jilali Kattass

Kind-2nd Grade Arabic, Qur'an, and Islamic Studies: Latifa Chiguer

Ms. Chiguer received her Bachelors Degree from the University of Muhammad V in Rabat and taught Arabic and Qur’anic Studies for two years in Morocco. She also has one year of experience in a Pre-Kindergarten Center in Texas and more than 7 years of experience in Islamic Schools as a full-time Qur’an, Arabic, and Islamic Studies teacher.


4th and 5th Grade Arabic Teacher: Laila Khater

Ms. Laila received her Bachelors Degree from Al Al-Bayt University in English Language and Literature with a minor in Education from Amman, Jordan. She taught English for elementary classes for one year in Amman,  Jordan. Ms. Laila joined Renaissance in 2012, and worked with Ms. Lateefa Chiguer.


5th - 8th Grade Qur'an and Islamic Studies: Ariege Muallem

Sr Ariege Muallem earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology (with a Minor in Chemistry) from the University of West Georgia and her Masters in Endocrinology Reproductive Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  However, her passion for Tajweed led her to earn her Tajweed Certificate from Al Azhar Institute in Houston, TX.  She has taught Math and Science to Middle and High Schoolers, but has now decided to teach Quran and Islamic Studies as those subjects are closer to her heart.  She has  had students from ages 3 yrs to 18 yrs, teaching them either Quran/Arabic/Islamic Studies or Math and Science.  Because of her science degrees, she always tries to incorporate science into the tafseer of the Quranic verses she teaches, in the hopes of instilling in her students an awe, love and respect for the Book of Allah.


Middle School and High School Language Arts: Patricia Marquez

Ms. Patricia Marquez received her Masters degree in English from CUNY Brooklyn College and her Bachelors degree in writing and literature from Sarah Lawrence College. She studied literature and philosophy abroad at King's College London. With five years of classroom teaching experience, including SAT, ACT, AP, and Common Core test preparation, she is also a published author of short stories and poems. Currently editing her first novel, Ms. Marquez enjoys challenging her students rigorously in reading comprehension, composition skills and strategies, persuasive argumentation, and creative writing.


Middle School and High School Social Studies: Barbara Keese


Middle School Math: Dana El Zein

Mrs. Dana El Zein brings energy and enthusiasm with her teaching style. She is in final stage of completing all requirements for Texas Certified Mathematics 9-12 Teacher with an ESL Supplemental Certification. She has earned an MS in Computer Science from Montclair State University, NJ. Mrs. Dana El Zein has one year of experience teaching various Middle and High School grades.


High School Math: VenuMadhavi Vudayagiri

Mrs. VenuMadhavi Vudayagiri is enthusiastic and motivating Mathematics teacher for High School. She received her Masters in Computer Sciences from California State University, East Bay, CA. She is also a Bachelor of Engineering in Mechanical Engineering from Osmania University, Hyderabad. She hails from a family of devoted and dedicated teachers in Andhra Pradesh, India. She believes in building confidence among her students and also a love for Math in them. She works in bringing in the concepts right, an important factor to further the interest in solving critical problems in any subject area.


Middle School and High School Science: Allison Gedik

Mrs. Allison Gedik is a Texas Certified Science Teacher with an ESL Supplemental Certification. She has been a Middle and High School Math/Science/ESL teacher for four years and previously lived in Turkey with her family. She has earned a BS in Pre-Med/Biology and an MS in Nutritional Sciences. Mrs. Gedik's avocations are Teaching, Science, Health, Medicine/Nutrition, Middle Eastern Foods, Family, and Cooking.


Arabic/Islamic Studies/Quran

Ms. Laila received her Bachelors Degree from Mutaa University in English Language and Literature with a minor in Education from Amman, Jordan. She taught English for elementary classes for two years in Amman,  Jordan. Ms. Laila joined Renaissance in 2012, and worked with Ms. Lateefa Chiguer.


High School Islamic Studies and Quran: Islam Mossaad

Sh. Mossaad earned his Bachelors Degree from the University of Texas in Austin. He has more than six years experience working as the Imam of different North American Islamic Centers. He has also worked as a teacher in different Islamic Schools for 6 years and was the principal of an Islamic School in Arkansas for one year. Sh. Mossad is a Hafith and lead the Taraweeh for the past couple of years at NAMCC.

Renaissance Education Foundation

Renaissance Education Foundation (REF) is an Austin based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to support youth activities that cater to the need of our community. REF's mission is to promote academic excellence, leadership skills, and distinguished moral principles in youth by providing infrastructural, operational and monetary support. Renaissance Academy is a REF initiative.
