Faculty

Principal: Dalia Mostafa

Ms. Mostafa brings with her 20 years of experience in the field of Education as a teacher and an administrator.  She has extensive background in school administration after having served as a principal in Islamic Schools in the US over the past 8 years.  She holds two Graduate degrees in the field of Education; (CAGS) Certificate of Advanced Graduate Studies in Teacher Education and Curriculum Studies in addition to a Master's Degree in Foreign Language Instruction. Both degrees are from the University of Massachusetts, Amherst. Ms. Mostafa is trained as an evaluator and served as a member of School Accreditation Visiting Teams multiple times with both the NEASC (New England Association of Schools and Colleges) as well as AdvancED. She has extensive training in the area of behavior management, school improvement, and effective communication with parents as well as effective conflict resolution strategies.


Administrative Assistant: Andrea Stewart

Ms. Andrea has joined us this year in the capacity of an administrative assistant.  She recently got married and relocated to Austin from Michigan. Before joining Renaissance, Academy, Ms Stewart served in the capacity of an administrative assistant in a charter school with 600 students. She managed administrative tasks ranging from admission, attendance, secretarial tasks and much more.  Ms. Andrea’s experience and training is sure to enrich our school and we are looking forward to a productive year with her as great addition to Renaissance Team.


Operations Manager & Renweb Admin: Sameena Siddiqui

Ms. Siddiqi earned her B.S. in Economics with Minors in Math and Finance from the Lahore University of Management Sciences and she earned her Masters of Public Affairs from the LBJ School of Public Affairs at the University of Texas at Austin. She has 3 years of experience working in various administrative positions.

Preschool Director / PK 4 Lead Teacher - Delphine Phelps

Ms. Phelps brings along with her 16 years of experience working as preschool Director in several well established Preschools in the State of TX. She holds TX Preschool Director License.  Ms. Phelps has years of teaching experience in the Preschool level teaching students ages 2-5.  Ms. Phelps was highly recommended by her references and all her previous employers we contacted.


Ms. Phelps served in one of the Prime Rose Preschool Locations building the program from the ground up. She takes pride in establishing a very innovative program and increasing the preschool enrollment from 70 students to 175 students during her 5 year employment term with them.


Ms. Phelps has successfully managed an after-school program in Austin for 2 years.   Between 1997 and 2007 Ms. Phelps was the Director of another franchise preschool program. She built the program from the ground up and successfully managed it for 10 years. She designed the rooms, researched age-appropriate curriculum for toddlers to five-year old, hired and trained the staff, and held special events.


Ms. Phelps is well versed in the area of Early Childhood Education and staff training. She is very familiar with Texas Day Care and Preschool Licensing Standards of health, safety and curriculum.


Pre-School 3 Lead Teacher:  Lamya Chouika

New to the Austin area, previously worked as a Preschool teacher at an Islamic School in Ohio where she also worked as an Administrative Assistant.  She attended Catonsville Community College in Baltimore Maryland.  She enjoys working with children and loves helping others.  Ms. Lamya is also a Certified Nursing Assistant with extensive work experience in Pediatric Care with Nationwide Children's Hospital in Columbus Ohio.


Pre-School Co-Lead Teacher: Almas Kudia

Ms. Almas Kudia was born in Pakistan and attended High School in Pakistan and the US. She has been closely involved in Islamic Schools since 1996 in Michigan and Alabama. Ms. Kudia has been an active parent at Renaissance since 2009 and has been substituting in various grade levels since 2012; for the present academic year she's taken the role of preschool Qur'an and Islamic Studies Teacher as well as full time substitute.




Kindergarten: Sarah Wakefield

Ms. Wakefield is a Texas Certified EC-4 Teacher with ESL Supplemental Certification. She has three years of of elementary teaching experience. She earned her BS Degree from The University of Texas at Austin and is working towards obtaining her Gifted and Talented Certification.  


 Kindergarten Assistant: Sana Hassan

Ms. Sana recently joined our team in the capacity of a kindergarten Assistant. Ms. Hassan has a bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education as well as and TESOL (Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages) certificate. Ms. Hassan has teaching experience in the elementary level with several grades ranging from Preschool to 6 grades.  As a part of her teaching certification requirement, Ms. Hassan has completed two teaching practicum of 90 hours each teaching 5th grade. In addition, Ms. Hassan has also successfully passed 16 weeks of training as a 3rd grade teacher as part of her Elementary Teaching Certification requirement. With her experience, you can consider that we have two fully capable educators in the kindergarten classroom. We are looking forward to Ms. Hassan’s contribution to our school.    


 1st Grade : Monica Perez–Macias

Ms. Perez brings along with her two decades of experience teaching both Kindergarten and 1st grade in Round Rock as well as San Antonio Public schools. She holds a master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction as well as a bachelor’s degree in Education. She holds (E-6) Early Childhood – 6th Texas Teaching Certificate in addition to ESL Teaching Certificate.


She has taught all core subjects for grade KG and 1st and is well versed in the area of curriculum and instruction. She is familiar with differentiated instruction and can work with all students individually to bring the best out of them Ms. Macias experience is sure to enrich our school. 


 2nd Grade: Henna Nasir 

Ms. Henna joined us this year to teach 2nd grade. She has recently moved from Huston. She has two lovely girls; one of them is a Renaissance student already. She is a certified (EC – 6th) teacher.  She holds a Bachelor’s of science in Sociology. Ms Henna is an enthusiastic and "Highly Qualified" individual with work experience that has provided opportunities in many areas. 


 3rd Grade: Jessica Burke 

Ms. Burke has joined Renaissance Academy as a 3rd grade homeroom teacher. She was recognized twice as a Distinguished Student by Tarleton State University. She holds several Teaching Certifications covering elementary and middle school levels. She is also certified in Special Education for K-12. Ms. Burke has an extensive background in Math instruction and intervention. She has several years of teaching experience in public schools. She is experienced in TEKS based curriculum, assessment, and instruction.  She brings along with her a lot of passion and enthusiasm that is sure to enrich our school.  Welcome aboard Ms. Burke!!!


 4th - 5th Grade Language Arts/Social Studies: Scott McKinley

Mr. McKinley is yet another positive addition to our school this year. He has over seven years of teaching experience. He possesses unique skill set as teacher. He has classroom experience as the teacher of record in the subjects of English at the freshman -junior grade levels, both Level and AP and one year experience teaching Social Studies in the Private school environment. He currently certified to teach History. He holds a master’s degree in teaching and a Bachelor’s degree in history. He is a member of multiple prestigious organizations including: Pi Gamma Mu, Social Science Honor Society, Phi Alpha Theta History Honor Society, Phi Theta Kappa, International Honor Society, and Sigma Phi Epsilon, and International Social Fraternity. We are looking forward to his contributions and to the new doors he will open for the school and the students. 


 4th & 5th Grade Math/Science: Peggy Matthews

Ms. Matthews has joined our team this year for the 1st time. She will be teaching 4th, 5th and 6th grade Math and Science. She will also be the homeroom teacher for 5th grade. Ms. Matthews carries under her belt over 22 years of experience in the field of education.  She is an accomplished, student-focused, and passionate teaching professional with a solid commitment towards student achievement and the talent to inspire students to reach their full academic potential.  She is skilled in the art of lesson development, ensuring accommodation to address the varied learning styles and abilities of each student.  She is a solid team player with excellent interpersonal and communication skills to cultivate and maintain meaningful relationships within the school community.  Ms. Mathews holds a master’s degree in educational technology. She holds numerous teaching Certificates that include but are not limited to:  Texas Teaching Certifications: Elementary 1-8; ESL EC-12; Tech Apps EC-12; Gifted and Talented EC-12; Art PK-12. She is also a member of: International Society for Technology in Education (ISTE); as well as Texas Computer Education Association (TCEA)


 Physical Education: Sarah Villegas

Ms. Villegas will be teaching physical education to grades   KG-12. 


She has taught physical Education in Idea ISD. He is a certified Fitness Consultant who works for Gold’s GYM.  She holds a Bachelor's in Kinesiology Texas A& M San Antonio. She is young and full of energy and is sure to get us all in shape. 


Arabic/Islamic Studies/Quran


Arabic Teacher/Department Head: Jilali Kattass

Mr. Kattass graduated with Teaching Certification from the Teacher Training Center in Taza, Morocco. He taught Arabic for nine years in various elementary and middle schools in Morocco, where he focused on the development of Arabic curriculum standards. He has 7 years of experience teaching Arabic in the United States and has been the head of the Arabic department for 4 years.


Kind-5th Grade Qur'an, and Islamic Studies: Abeer Mourdi

Ms. Mouradi is a new comer to Austin. She has recently relocated here from Michigan. Ms. Mouradi holds a bachelor’s degree in psychology. Her areas of training include developmental psychology and behavior management.  She has attended several post graduate training programs including but are not limited to:  Bloom’s Taxonomy of Learning Domains and Multiple Intelligences Theory, Applying Lawrence Kohlberg‘s Model for School Discipline, and   Bully- Free Schools: A Circle of Support for Learning. Ms Abeer is a native Arabic Speaker and has been teaching Arabic /Quran and Islamic studies in an Islamic School in Michigan for the past 3 years using innovative, interactive and age appropriate teaching techniques. Her experience in classroom management and developmental psychology is sure to enrich our school and our students. 


4th and 5th Grade Arabic Teacher: Laila Khater

Ms. Laila received her Bachelors Degree from Al Al-Bayt University in English Language and Literature with a minor in Education from Amman, Jordan. She taught English for elementary classes for one year in Amman,  Jordan. Ms. Laila joined Renaissance in 2012.


5th - 8th Grade Qur'an and Islamic Studies: Ariege Muallem

Sr Ariege Muallem earned her Bachelor’s degree in Biology (with a Minor in Chemistry) from the University of West Georgia and her Masters in Endocrinology Reproductive Physiology from the University of Wisconsin-Madison.  However, her passion for Tajweed led her to earn her Tajweed Certificate from Al Azhar Institute in Houston, TX.  She has taught Math and Science to Middle and High Schoolers, but has now decided to teach Quran and Islamic Studies as those subjects are closer to her heart.  She has  had students from ages 3 yrs to 18 yrs, teaching them either Quran/Arabic/Islamic Studies or Math and Science.  Because of her science degrees, she always tries to incorporate science into the tafseer of the Quranic verses she teaches, in the hopes of instilling in her students an awe, love and respect for the Book of Allah.


Middle School and High School Language Arts: Patricia Marquez

Ms. Patricia Marquez received her Masters degree in English from CUNY Brooklyn College and her Bachelors degree in writing and literature from Sarah Lawrence College. She studied literature and philosophy abroad at King's College London. With five years of classroom teaching experience, including SAT, ACT, AP, and Common Core test preparation, she is also a published author of short stories and poems. Currently editing her first novel, Ms. Marquez enjoys challenging her students rigorously in reading comprehension, composition skills and strategies, persuasive argumentation, and creative writing.


Middle School and High School Social Studies: Aisha Bhadelia

Ms. Bhadelia is a young individual with a sincere passion for history and world cultures.  She holds a bachelor’s degree in history with a minor in Government and European Certification. She is a Certified Middle and High school Social Studies Teacher.  She taught social studies as a part of her teaching certification program at Round Rock ISD where she Created lectures plans for senior economics and government classes, developed assignments and activities to enable students grasp of material and assessed  student progress. 


She is very familiar with the STAAR through her experience as a test scorer with Pearson Education where she :  Scored  EOC ( End of Course Exams)  I and II writing and reading component and Analyzed essay that receive score point 1 on TAKS. Ms. Bhadelia also has experience working as a YMCA Counselor.  We are excited to have someone as energetic as her is joining our team. 



Middle School and High School Math: Jeffrey L. LaRoux

Mr. LaROUX has been a passionate educator since 1995.  He is a dedicated, enthusiastic, and proven educator with a natural ability to inspire students. He has years of experience not only in the classroom, but writing curriculum and planning activities that promote the level of understanding that students need in order to be successful in a post-secondary environment.  He has an "outside-the-box" approach that will engage and stimulate young minds, and a passion for teaching that is vibrant and driven.  Between 1995 and 2015, Mr. LaRough Taught all level Math classes for Middle and HS including Algebra 1, 2 , Geometry , Pre Calculus  and AP Pre Calculus . He also taught advanced college prep courses such as a Part of an IB (International Baccalaureate Diploma Program). He participated in a curriculum writing team that developed higher standards for the Math department. . Mr. LaRoux s was selected to serve on the Campus Leadership Team to improve the TAKS scores of the 7th grade students.. He Coached the UIL and TMSCA Mathematics teams. He has a proven record of increasing the students passing rate in the STAAR in his classes from a 50% passing rate to a 100% passing rate. Mr. LaRoux holds a Bachelor of Science in Secondary Math Education, with a minor in Computer Science. 


Middle School Science, High School Biology and Chemistry: Vincent O’Sullivan

Mr. O’Sullivan has joined us February of 2015.  Last year he taught 7th and 8th grade science, Biology and AP Biology. We are very grateful to continue to have him as a part of our school for another year. Mr. O’ Sullivan is an engineer by profession. He holds bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering and another bachelor’s degree in physics. He also served as a Senior Science Editor of Science Textbooks in major publishing companies such as Holt Rinehart and Winston. He managed editorial, marketing, and production of 20 scholarly journals with Gordon and Breach Science Publishers. He worked with senior staff and content editors to define editorial scope, publication schedule and marketing of journal publications.  We are pleased to have him continue to be part of RA.

Renaissance Education Foundation

Renaissance Education Foundation (REF) is an Austin based 501(c)(3) non-profit organization established to support youth activities that cater to the need of our community. REF's mission is to promote academic excellence, leadership skills, and distinguished moral principles in youth by providing infrastructural, operational and monetary support. Renaissance Academy is a REF initiative.
